For these reasons, the Civil War is sometimes called “The First Modern War.’ This camp will explore some of those new technologies, including the use of electronic communication through the telegraph and new and improved secret codes. What many people do not realize is the rapid technological advances that began to appear at the time of the Civil War. It is a fascinating time period to study.
